Fantastic commuter links from houses to rent wishaw

November 16, 2010 Leave a comment

We have recently moved to some houses to rent wishaw with friends of our family.

Wishaw is a relatively large town, and Motherwll is a neighbouring bigger town where it is easier to do shopping and food shopping.

There are great bus links between the various towns in this part of Scotland, and there is easy access by train to other areas of Scotland.

We had plenty of choice when we visited the area of Wishaw to choose a house to rent- we viewed about five different houses, all of which we could of moved into as they were all perfect.

Look around for cheap insurance

November 16, 2010 Leave a comment

The best way to find cheap insurance is to make sure you look around all possible options and compare quotes from various providers.

The quickest way to find cheap insurance is to use internet comparison websites. There are three or four main sites that cover about 90% of the market, but some companies are not listed on comparison sites, so it worth checking quotes from them as well, so that you get a well rounded number of quotes.

The price varies greatly between different companies due to their various criteria that each different person meets or does not meet. Once you have found the top three quotes it is worth calling them to see if you can negotiate the price down even more.

The link between TV shows and the West End

November 3, 2009 Leave a comment

My young daughter, Louise, is obsessed with all of these shows you see on television looking for the next West End star.

She loves the outfits, the dancing and the music and so to help her understand the link between these TV shows and the West End I’ve decided to take her down to London to catch a show.

I’ve decided that we’ll go and see the Lion King musical. I know this isn’t quite the same sort of thing that Lord Webber’s “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?” shows deal with, but she’s a big fan of the movie.

Continuing education through medical courses

October 27, 2009 Leave a comment

My uncle is a doctor, a tough job and one that requires constant learning if he’s to do it fully.

And with a series of appraisal and revalidation taking place throughout the year for most GPs and doctors there is a clear rise in the number of companies offering medical courses.

These take a number of forms – from two day updates or more specialist, long-term events that cover areas like cardiology, diabetes, CKD Neurology and the like.

The range of courses available (try here for more) are also suitable for physicians and doctors practice managers to ensure everyone’s knowledge is up-to-date.

Buying your home

October 12, 2009 Leave a comment

Buying your home is undoubtedly one of the biggest purchases you’ll ever make. Before you buy, you should be sure that you’ve done as much research as possible into every aspect of the property. And not just the building itself – there’s a reason the phrase “location, location, location” has become so commonplace, and it’s not because of the TV show of the same name…

We’ve been tentatively thinking about moving recently, and as I was doing some online research I came across this site. Just type in the postcode of the area you’re thinking of buying in and you’ll get a host of valuable information which will tell you a lot more about the locality than just driving around it ever would.

Cheap flights to Abu Dhabi – an exotic family holiday

October 12, 2009 Leave a comment

We are planning a family holiday for mid-winter, and as the family wants to go somewhere hot (and to be honest so do I) we have decided to book cheap flights to Abu Dhabi.

After all, it is a lot more exotic than the usual destinations such as Spain or France. What’s more, the city is astoundingly beautiful and there is an amazing array of things to do.

I’m looking forward to camel safari while the kids – with the logic that only children understand – are most excited about ice skating at Zayed Sports City.

Abu Dhabi is an increasingly popular tourist destination, and there are plenty of places to book holidays.

A piece of cake – recipes galore online

October 8, 2009 Leave a comment

There’s nothing like a birthday to bring the family together round the kitchen table of an evening. Their enthusiasm has little to do with any emotional attachment to each other, of course – it’s the lure of the home-baked birthday cake that encourages them to set sibling rivalries aside for a few minutes. In the 60s and 70s, when I was growing up, birthday cake recipes were pretty uncomplicated. You baked your Victoria sponge or chocolate cake, sandwiched the two halves together with some strawberry jam, plus butter icing or cream, popped the requisite number of candles on the top, and bingo: one birthday cake! Today the cornucopia of cake recipes (take a look) available online for hungry birthday boys and girls would keep even a robotic Gary Rhodes busy for months. There are recipes for cakes in the shape of Barbie dolls (remember her?), cakes customised as cars, gluten-free cakes masquerading as fairytale castles. You name it, you’ll find a cake recipe for it.

TV shows and the West End – getting the family into the theatre

October 8, 2009 Leave a comment

The impact that television has had on the theatre recently is undeniable. Indeed, many West End shows have seen record box office results due to TV talent shows that help to find the stars.

And while Kevin Spacey may believe that the relationship between TV shows and the West End unfairly promotes musicals over straight theatre, this is not always the case.

David Tennant’s run as Hamlet was hugely successful – and I think a lot of the audience went to see how Doctor Who would cope with the role.

While the TV talent shows may concentrate solely on musicals, they do get families into the theatre – and the initial experience may make them decide to buy tickets for straight plays in the future.

Spa breaks – some well-earned rest and relaxation

September 29, 2009 Leave a comment

My other half has become increasingly addicted to spa breaks recently. She’s been away three or four times already this year, and she’s already booked another visit in a couple of weeks time.

She first went after I bought her a voucher for a spa break for Christmas. She absolutely loved it, and even I saw the benefits – when she came back she was completely de-stressed and more chilled-out than I’d seen her in ages. She’s had all kinds of different therapies and treatments – her favourite so far has been the Balinese Massage, which she said was a bit sore at first but ended up being really invigorating – and she keeps trying to persuade me to go with her. I’ve resisted so far, but she makes it sound so appealing I think I’ll probably end up giving it a shot at some point…
